I've bought the mine without battery and I don't want to do something wrong...

Since the U.S. dollar is worthless these days (worth LESS every day!) I've been trading U.S. goods for my Marcos bits.

Primarily concentrating on items that were missing altogether.

I have recently gotten new headlamp covers and gaskets, new front bumpers too.

So now the car is very complete, just needs a full restoration.

Having decided to keep it looking as original as possible I now need to locate the correct pattern "Basket Weave"...

My pal has a 1969 1600 GT wooden chassis car with original type engine and gearbox, we have rebuilt the car for racing last year and have just been tidying up a few things, one job was to fit a speedo cable, a cable for a 1600 car was purchased from MHS but it wont fit into the gearbox drive, we have a spare box so we have checked the drive in that also but it is the same, the square on the inner cable is larger than the square in the drive MHS confirm the cable is the correct one, has anyone...

Disappointed with MHS, got new front bumpers and they are not the shape I expected for a 1967 1600 GT.

I did provide the year and chassis number.

The bumpers I got are a bit generic, they appear to be interchangeable from left to right.
They do not have the long curved bit at the inner end, merely a symmetrical blob.

Are these actually correct for my car, or are MHS just making life easier for themselves with a new universal front bumper set?

We have a French 1600 GT (1968) owner looking for replacement engine mounts - has anyone got any information about where to obtain these for him. Somewhere in England is fine as Darren is back there at the end of January. Haven't tried Rory yet as he will have gone home now! Cheers

I'm having my 1600GT rebuilt by Wooden Wonders of Sweden. Thought I should share some pics with you all. It has a new wooden chassis, as the old one was gone. It will be rebuilt as a roadcar (5 gears, but no radio or ashtray!). Will keep you updated as the restoration proceeds.

Some considerable time ago in the 70's I owned my first Marcos - wooden chassis - with 1500 Cortina engine- I sold it, like many other people, when I got married and had kids. I now have a 1970 V6 band kids grown up ( wife gone as well) I sold the car to somebody in the west country and wondered if it is still around??

Hi, I'm looking for pics of the 1600GT with 14" wheels, preferably wires. I want to know if it's possible to retain the classic look with slightly lower section tyres. BTW: pics of the Marcos with 13" wires also much appreciated!

I´m having a 1600GT rebuilt at Wooden Wonders. I haven´t yet made up my mind about the wheel size. I want to go for the classic look, so no low profiles for me. In that case, 13" wheels seem to fill out the front arches nicely. However, for the rear axle, 14" seems more appropriate. Has anyone experimented with different wheel sizes at the front and the rear? Does it have any adverse implications for roadholding and handling?

I need the EXACT width of a rear axle, measured from one wheel mounting face to the other.

My own car is in storage at the moment, so hard to measure.

Specifications found on-line state the track is 1295 mm or 51".

But I am unsure how this is being measured.
My rough measurement (done by myself in cramped quarters) seems to show the measurement as 49.5", 3.75" bolt circle.

I recently acquired an Alfa 2000 rear axle, it is 53.25"...

Does the 1600 GT suffer from the "Bump Steer" problem I see referenced in other threads? I would have thought that with all the Spitfire suspension equipped cars on the road and track that would have been sorted out a long time ago. I'm also looking for some tubular upper and lower "A" arms, adjustable if possible. I did find some 11" 4-pot front brakes locally to go with the Alfa rear disc.

I have decided that my original Mg Minlite wheels are not good enough for my use.
I have also been VERY disappointed in the selection of available 13" tyres.

I also have to find a way to deal with the differing bolt circle of the Marcos/TR and Alfa suspensions.

It seems my best option may be to go to 15" wheels, preferably with knock-on hubs.

Will either of these tyre sizes clear the...

so now the entire drive-train will be Alfa.

The Alfa axle comes with rear disk brakes.

I have a limited slip center to put in it too.

But this does raise a difficulty.
What to do about wheels?

The front and read PCD will differ, unless I make up some custom front hubs, or re-drill the rear axles and brakes.

I'm thinking that wires may be the best, the PCD does not matter with them so long as the hub...

My 1600 GT came with a laughable little roll-over bar. It's a simple curved bit of tubing, which is screwed onto the rear sill below the window. On a wood chassis car! Does this bit of "Racing equipment" signify anything, was it some sort of U.S. spec. addition, or perhaps a joke the lads at the factory put in? It is cute, I think I will put it back in place, even though I know it's useless.

Think i have finaly got to grips with uploading pictures now so i hope to be able to post a sort of diary of our progress, as me and my cousin attempt to rebuild our 1967 Marcos.

Its a wooden chassis car so represents a whole new challenge for us but this was part of the appeal with the early Marcos anyway.

I am having a screen made by a local firm as i need 2 and a fellow marcos owner who lives locally needs one after his vanished at 60 mph...
I have my old damaged one as a pattern which is more than adequate, we were wondering if anyone else would be interested in one??? im anticipating the price to be about £50 + 12 delivery anywhere in UK (N Ire may be more) but i need a rough idea of how many would be interested, they will be manufactured from 5mm lexan like race car windows..
