Reading Marcos Owners Mag no 57 from 1988 I was surprised to read about a supercharged V6 Marcos reg no Q 412 LKH - which was being used in Drag racing and hill climbs. The supercharged engine was producing 320bhp in hillclimb spec, and 500bhp with nitrous on the drag strip - which for a 3 litre V6 sounds completely amazing.

Exhaust Noise

Whilst I agree that our cars have nice sounding exhausts, people who run Hill Climbs and Track days have other ideas. They typically want a noise limit of ca 95 - 100db ( at 18in/0.5m) My car is ca 105-110db with standard Marcos Exhaust. I have tried inserts from Carbuilder - no effect. Has any body else solved this problem eg fitting a different silencer or extra silencers. I am of course going to do more track-days and join the HSA (Hill-climb and sprint association) so need to reduce the...

Improved Braking

Since I now have a tuned V6 engine. I improved the brakes by fitting Wilwood 4-pot calipers on the front with greenstuff pads, vented disc and improved linings for the rear std drum brakes. I don't like the standard 'plumbing' system ie rear brakes plumbed in series. Has anybody improved this setup eg by fitting twin master cylinders or plumbing in a different way with a bias valve? I don't yet want to go to the expense of fitting rear disc brakes.

Urgent help required! Can any one tell me what gear boxes 4 and 5 speed with or without O/drive will fit the essex V6 engine?

I have the original bell housing.

I am advised by MHS that they do not supply replacement "Superflex" bushes for the 1969 V6 steel chassis radius arms.

Has anyone installed a set, if so which ones?.

I see Superflex list a set Number SPF2111 for a Marcos, but which model.

Any help/advice appreciated.

Axle Identification

Need some help to identify the axle fitted to my V6 - 1969. It,s cast iron with a tin plate rear cover and fitted with both oil level and drain plugs.
Its 52" wide from wheel flange to flange.
The main tubes where the radius arm brackets are welded on are 2.25" diameter
There are 18 splines on the half shaft, bearings are Timken 14276 and inner oil seals 3HA 027
9" diameter brake drums fitted with 3.58 diff ratio (43tooth wheel and 12 tooth...

Gearbox and Axle ratio's recomendations

Does any body have any recommendations of whats the most suitable ratios for the gearbox and rear axle on a 1970 steel chassis V6?

My car is currently fitted with the original cortina axle that has a 3.77 ratio along with the 4spd gearbox with OD that has the following ratios
1st=3.163, 2nd=2.214, 3rd= 1.412, 4th=1, 4th+OD=0.82

Having looked at the different gearboxes available there doesn't seem much advantage of fitting a 5spd gearbox as it won't really...

Can anyone provide guidance in respect of the essex engine?

I need a replacement engine, but need to know how to spot and avoid the early Zodiac engine (with the oil pressure problem)?

Do engine numbers identify them?

Is it possible and easy to replace the essex with the cologne, or should that be avoided?

Wiper arms & blades for 3.0 V6

I have miss-matched wipers (black & s/steel + different arms/wiper sizes) on my V6 & want to replace them with suitable components.

Can anyone tell me what the originals were? And maybe a source?

Advice/help needed - vibration from rear of car?

Hi can anyone give us advice on how to find the source of a vibration coming from the rear of the car? I thought it was the prop shaft but two new bearings hasn't fixed it. Tomorrow I was planning to see if I can find a garage that can re-balance my rear wheels by clamping them on the wheel studs. If that doesn't fix it I'm not sure what to try next. Any advice is welcome as I'm running out of time to fix it.

now getting towards the end of the resto and the mad dash trying to get every thing ready so it makes it to the 50th ....took a week off work got the engine all up and running sounds great no leaks etc ...brakes all bleed up fine ...clutch all bleed up fine so go to drive it off the ramp and it seams the clutch is just not pulling in enough .it is 100% bleed fine also played with adjustment on the pedal box but no joy .jacked the rear up put it in gear pressed the clutch down and the...

Engine number location

Dose any one know where the engine number is located on the Essex v6? I want to double check the engine number before I stamp my new chassis plate.

Also I now have a MOT on the car so once I've fixed a couple of outstanding issues I will able to use the car.

Chassis Numbers

Grit blasting the chassis today and discovered not 1 BUT 2 chassis numbers.

There was 5462 with big x's through it and replaced with the correct 5469 alongside.

Any ideas or was it just a bad day in the works back in 1969?

As my restoration nears completion there are a couple of items I still require. One of these is the flimsy piece of metal that attaches to the starter motor and acts as a heat shield and the other is a bulb holder for the sidelights of a Marcos GT that fits into the bottom of the headlight (my car has the square headlights from a vauxhall viva).

If any one can help us with these items please let me know.
