To be honust, i am going to see how the Lm600 performs with the LS1 engine, it should be much quicker than the old LM400 any way, BUT £10k for 200mph and 0-60 3.7 secs!!! i am giving this some thought!!!! It would potentially be the fastest most powerful marcos road car also!!! NOW thats mega exlusiveness!!!!!!! its not impossible, so we will wait and see!! Top Cats are going to play with it 1st, so it depends on how happy i am with the performance after they tinker with it!! but thats about a month away yet! |

boycey wrote:If you get the conversion done by a proper custom house, you may find it costing you more than £10k, The standard Marcos Chassis does not allow the straight forward fitting of the LS1/6/7/9. At 44cm across the bell housing there is no way the engine can sit between the lower chassis rail. On my Mantula, the chassis was originally scalloped to make room for the Rover engine and bell housing as it was. Even with these scallops s there isn't any room for that Clutch face of the LS1 unit. Fitting the LS1 to my Mantula is providing me with some interesting but time consuming and difficult possible solutions. The Rover/Marcos Manifolds had two branches dropping down and bending under the car. giving the downpipes a thin profile inside the engine bay. Unless you have a huge bank account that you can get a set of similar custom made headers for the Marcos to retro fit the LS engine you are faced with a huge 3 inch down pipe on each side that has to go somewhere. At 5.7 litres all aluminium 350 bhp is the only sensiible option to the Rover V8 at the moment, but its not for the faint hearted. Its going to be much cheaper to run than the Quad Cam Mustang powered lumps some of the new generation are running. Trying to get Real Steel to respond to my request for a bell housing and gearbox is not easy either. Sheesh you'd think they didn't want my money. Its only going to be quicker if you marry all that increased power to a gearbox and diff that can convert it into quicker forward motion, otherwise it will be an expensive pointless waste of time. Having all that powere turning a Rover gearbox and the standard Ford diff. Why bother? Someone over on the Mantula section estimates 242mph as a theoretical top speed for my Mantula using the Jag diff and TKO 600 gearbox I am trying to get in to the car. I guess that could be classed as fast enough.

Or.... buy a TSO chassis and the LS engine will drop straight in.

Still being made somewhere?
Is there any floating around? Does a Mantis/Mantara/Mantula Body fit a TSO chassis? I know whats easier, and it isn't the way I am doing it, haha.

I seem to remember that a TSO chassis went at auction last year along with the last of the cars. There are two TSOs being advertised on the market at the moment. One at David Gerald Sportscars in Worcs (An ex demonstrator) and one at Hexam Horseless Carriages in Northumberland (a customer's car). |

If fitting an LS engine, the most sensible option is to fit a Tremec gearbox / bellhousing combo from any of the American rwd cars that use this engine. Or
even from the Australian Holden versions. Or indeed the Vauxhal Monaro....
But getting a gearbox from an American "pull out" isn't that difficult at the moment. You can even buy a complete engine/gearbox combo with the ECU wires and sensors for a small amount of dollars ($2500-3000) |

Hang on we are going off topic a bit here, tso chassis, vauxhall monaro etc etc, this topic should be closed now as the original question was what engine was
in the Lm600 road car, but this was awnsered quite a while ago.
new topic re: tso chassis etc? |
