Cholmondeley Pageant of Power 9-10th August 2008 |
Lead | ||
|
I thought this was a regular rally, but noticed that they have a newly created race circuit. I am beginning to wonder if they are after a Northern version of a
Goodwood style event. Not a Marcos in the attendance list yet, but maybe something worth keeping an eye on. Anyone know any more ?

Cholmondeley Castle | #1

I Steve,
Thanks for posting this ,although only a short distance away from me I have never attended any of the functions here. Earlier this year I met up with fellow LEF members at Peckforton Castle,that was the first time I`d been,very impressive. If you display I believe admission is free.Cant imagine what the track will be like,shouldn`t think it will be anything like Oulton Park. Will try and attend if my commitments permit Trevor |

I think we certainly need someone to have a butchers - however I am hoping to go Faversham in Kent for their annual sailing barge match that weekend - but if
that falls through I will attend.

The North's version of the Festival of Speed | #3
|
I was in Demon Tweeks yesterday and they say this is indeed intended to be the North's version of the Lord March's bash down at Goodwood. Maybe a bit
of rivalry between Lord Cholmondeley and Lord March ! At Demon Tweeks they tell me you can use the code off their website (DMCPOP07) to get a 33% discount when
booking tickets in advance.
I see they have a space on the site plan for club stands, so maybe next year being our anniversary year we should have a stand. Steve

Club Stand - Free entry | #5
|
I dropped these people a line asking how you go about getting a club stand, stating it was too late for this
year, maybe next as its our anniversary.... and they are leaping up and down keen to have us there, stating "Hi here is the offer to car clubs for
this year, I still have 2 spaces if you could get a few together, minimum 5 on a stand."
The note they sent me follows : AN INVITATION You are invited to take a club stand at this sensational event; and no ordinary club pitch either. If you are used to a club field being away from the action, then think again! The Cholmondeley Pageant club area occupies over 300m of the track frontage right on the first straight from the start. The location could not be more central to the action! IMMEDIATE ACTION
You should not miss out on the inaugural event of what promises to be a very successful formula. With all the preparation that has been done to make the site ready, timescales are now compressed and you must act now to ensure your position at the trackside. Please can you go straight to your car events organiser to get the wheels in motion and book your car pitch with us, at the latest by 18th July. BOOKING DETAILSYou will be offered a 10 x 20 metre pitch (or multiples should you wish),
directly accessed to the exits, with lavatory and catering facilities nearby. There are approximately 30 pitches right on the track and direct frontage for
your club will be secured on a first come basis. The second row of stands is immediately behind the first. The
pitch is absolutely free and we will give one free weekend ticket per car to stand on the pitch. You should arrange and purchase sufficient discounted tickets
to cover your club officials and club members for the weekend. Camping is available adjacent to the club field at £15.00 per
caravan and £10 for a tent (forms are available to download from the website). Lavatory facilities are close by.
Remember to bring regalia, bunting, gazebos etc. So your club stands out, to
make it a successful as well as enjoyable weekend for you. If you would like to add a link to your website the address is

About Cholmomdeley | #8 | ||
|
For a first event I think this one holds quite some promise. The castle grounds are immense and the 1.5 mile circuit around the parkland was treated like a
hill climb, with timed runs for cars and bikes of all decades from 1897 to newish. Loads of places to stand almost next to the track. I counted nearly 20
helicopters in the helicopter park and the amount of money in old Bentleys, pre-war Alfas, GT40s, and out and out race cars was unthinkable. In many ways they
achieved their aim of a Northern version of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. In addition, lots of clubs were there, and under the banner of the Mini Marcos club
we managed to field a total of 3 Mini Marcos', a V6, my Mantula, and a Mantis (also a Lotus Elise crept in and a UniPower, which looked to me like a
MiniMarcos with the engine at the wrong end).
Open access to the Paddock was wonderful, especially standing next to the 24 litre Napier-Bentley while it was warming up, which managed to set fire to the grass with the flames belching from the exhaust even though it had been raining solid up to that point. Considering what a beats it was, it manage some pretty good times on the track. There were also helicopter demos and flights, powerboat racing too, and some upmarket helicopters for sale. This is apparently to be an annual event for many years to come, and with the right weather the location is fantastic. There were some obvious areas where things could be improved, but I fancy going again - especially if a club stand gets me in for free !! Steve
