Don't have time to fit the EFI system so am using a 38dgas. Engine has a 270/285 cam and has been dynamically balanced, total cost for 'Autosprint' to build the engine was £1100 ! and it was fitted to a Robin Hood race car. Owner wasn't happy with the performance so he went to using a 20xe instead. well frankly, it was never gonna run well with the original EFI system, so his loss was my gain for £150 inc. lightweight flywheel and headers
Anyway, I've made the engine mounts and have a 2.8 type 9 gearbox and alloy bellhousing all ready to fit, had to buy a 3 bolt starter motor though (I've already got 3 two bolt ones doh!)
Before moving the car off the drive I poked around underneath and found evidence of some serious rust issues with the chassis, car is now up on axle stands and the good news is that it's all quite solid, must be due to the original builders Waxoiling the insides when they built it (well at least they got one thing right) so now I have the envious job of lying under the car and wire brushing all the metal tubing and then treating and painting it all. got my die-grinder out and makes easy work of the bits I can get to, the rest is a real pig.
Other items for attention are,
Wipers. these are the bane of all Marcos Cars, I'm still working on some kind of improved alternative, latest idea is to fit a Ford motor inside the engine bay and through the bukhead, then use rods and rose jointed fittings.
Heater. Martina heater, well dunno how it's suposed to work as all it seems to do is re-circulate the air in the car, not much use as a de-mister then! I've bought a unit from a VW Polo that is compact and has a more powerful fan, hoping I can fit this in the passenger footwell area and put the battery above it.
Seats. they really need re-covering, but will fix them up for this year, then next year may look at a new interior.
Headlining. I bought some stuff last year to do this and have now got the spray adhesive too, looks like a fun job (any advice welcomed)
Winscreen and Rear Window. I've re-fitted the Windscreen and also a new Trim, just the back window to do now, it already has 2 cracks in it but I'm not changing it yet!
Sun Visors. anyone got these fitted? if so from what car?
Bodywork. well it needs a few thing doing, but no time this year as it needs to be ready for end of June
but will need a re-spray at
some point and the nearside front wheel arch has been fitted by a complete incompetant. I've also found a large crack in the floor-pan under the drivers
seat, whether this is down to my huge bulk or caused by something hitting the underneath of the car I don't know, but I dont fancy falling through the
floor halfway round the track so the p40 is coming out asap. I may also look at fitting a stainless support in this area just in case Well, isn't it a sign it's Spring, the Forum hasn't been this busy for ages
