did a bit more tonight, wire brushed the other shocker off the rear and gave it a coat of grey primer, pretty boring really, am looking at reducing the sump,
anyone with a 2.8 V6 had any issues with grounding? I've measured it up and it seems about the same level as the bottom of the bellhousing as standard, but
then again it is more vulnerable. will try and find a powdercoaters tomorrow, then I can put the shocks back on and start to re-build the brakes

Well as we all know sometimes things don't always go to plan. Started on the rear brakes, they're 9 inch ford drums and I thought they were in good
condition, but I found a crack between the stud holes on the drivers side drum. Apart from this all seems fine so I've given them a wire brushing and a
coat of fresh black paint. Front brakes will be next but as the car is up on axle stands and there's no rear springs fitted, the front discs are not easily
to get to due to lack of room in my garage. So after scoring nil with finding a local Powdercoating firm who work cheap, I've sprayed the springs with
bright red Plasticoat paint. They look pretty good actualy so will last for this year at least. Have to finish off the rest of the shocks then I can re-fit and
move the car back a little to do the fronts.
Found a site on the web stating that 2.8 Capri discs are a direct fit, this would give me vented discs and I'll have to source some calipers to match up, but the brakes I've got stop really well so I may leave them to keep the size of my 'to do' list down. Had a night out last night and a few beers and felt rough most of the day, so had a rest tonight. Mind you, I'm thinking the 'Hair of the dog' might just be the trick so see ya all soon tee hee

Burtons do a caliper spacing kit for £25-jut be careful that your mating surfaces are immaculate-don't think that the brakes really struggle do to the
lightness of the cars but it you do suffer from brake fade vented discs will obviously help. My car has a servo and thinking of removing it as I think it takes
away to much of the feel and fit "green stuff" pads. Get a slight rubbing on the wheel arches as well under heavy braking- need to adjust suspension
or arch return. Keep up the good work. (zetec may be ready for tatton but no promises!)

I've not done much this week, went out for a 'eat all you can' chinese meal on thursday and had to sleep it off or throw up. Spotted some Koni rear
shocks on fleabay and might stick a bid in if they're cheap.
The seals have gone on the Avo's where the adjuster knob fits, they don't leak much but I wouldn't like to loose all the fluid on the way to Le mans so will have to do something. well if all else fails I've got a few quid in the bank so will just have to fork out for whatever I need. will try and post some more piccies later. My brother wants me to go over to Alverley to look at a Saab he fancies, or is it a Cavalier ? what's the difference! have planned to get the engine in next week and go to Kit Car Show, that's after I've been to a wedding on saturday. ah well, looks like I'll have to get me finger out then. (it's about time that lazy sod Jonny Teranno came round and helped out instead of sleeping all day!) |

ok, so I've been a bit lazy, spent today stripping the 38dgas carb and cleaning it up, a chap told me some years back that 'paint brush cleaner'
works a treat, well it's not bad but didn't clean all the muck off.
My printer is bugered so I'll have to sit here and read the Weber manual off the VDU to put it back together, ah well. I have e mailed AVO re the shocks so hope they can get em done quick and next weekend can fit the engine I hope |

Nigel at AVO says can do shocks in around 5 days, sounds good to me so will post off tomorrow and fit the struts I made as a temp fix. Dgas is all cleaned up
now so will sneak it past her indoors and build it in the computer room tee hee, bet she smells it first but I can con her on that one. Also need to mention,
the dishwasher didn't work on the carbs either, it's all down to cleaning by hand I'm afraid chaps.

Shocks are on their way to AVO so thought I'd try the exhaust system for fit, apart from it being like jugging snakes in a confined area whilst lying on
your back, and all the pieces were mixed up, I think I've got it sorted.
It will need some pipes to reach to the front and up to the manifolds. depending on which manifolds I fit of course as the tubular ones I've got should reach down under the car, whereas the standard ones will need downpipes. System is all stainless 50mm made by Maniflow and a bargain off ebay for £150. (sorry to the bloke who bid against me, but tough!) got a picture of a similar system somewhere so will post it here, if anyone has any better pictures of this system please post them here too. working late tomoz so a night off, back to it on Thursday |

It's starting to look more like I won't be able to make the Kitcar show on Sunday, I really need to get on and fit the engine. Problems are starting to come out of the woodwork now and the exhaust manifolds look like being a real pig, mind you if I can get the Terrano kid round to help on Saturday I might have a day off sunday then can do the manifolds on Monday, mm that would do eh? (wonder if he's reading this?) above is a picture of some similar exhausts to mine except mine seem to have more of an up-sweep on the tailpipes, anyone know what the front bit looks like? oh, and if anyone out there is in need of a stainless single pipe system (I think it's genuine Marcos cos it fits really well) then PM me and we'll talk beer tokens. I'm going to the pub now to drown my sorrows, I've had a crap week at work and now the gods have decided to test me further. Just thought, there's a place about a mile away that makes those 'Powerflow' systems, anyone know what I'll have to do to the car to make it legal to tow round there? then I can just pay them to do it and bugger the expence. see, think of beer and all goes right with the world, right then off to the pub and all will look far better through a beer haze, or in my case Cider haze. at this rate I'll be buying Frosty Jack by the end of next week and sitting on the wall outside the AA meeting place. bring it on I say |

well, Jonny T says he'll be round at 10am, so straight from the Pub then ! as I fell asleep tonight (it's a side effect of getting old and eating too
much, but it's my glands that make me fat) so didn't do all the prep work I should have, but JT is never on time and there's only one 10
o'clock in his day, so I'll do it in the morning before he gets here. By tomorrow night I should be able to assess the reality of completion, or how
much it's going to cost.

IT'S IN !
The engine that is, so will post some pictures tomorrow, no word from Jonny T so had to struggle with it all myself but everything seems to fit and the engine mounts I made look spot on. I've still got to get it out again as there's no clutch in it, but things are looking to be on course to finish it in time for France |

Well, here she is. A lot more work yet but at least it fits well enough. Had a day off today and went to Kitcar show, eventually found the Marcos stand (or where they were all parked anyway) after stopping a Blue Spyder that was leaving at around 12-30. Has a rush round trying to find some parts I need desperately but it was all in vain never mind eh, £12-50 to get in and buy £7 worth of stainless bolts. Followed a red Marcos Q277*** down most of the A45 back towards Brum. Had a look at some GT40s, god I love those cars, if ever I inherit any money that'll be my first stop ! after the Pub of course. Had rest of the day off after eating a large Pizza and chips and drinking a half bottle of Vintage Cava. I knew I should have stayed home and worked on the car, well there's always tomorrow unless her indoors want to go somewhere, but I've got the upper hand, I just tell her 'well if you want this holiday in France', tee hee. Tune in tomorrow night for the next exciting instalment of 'Rebuild for Le Mans'. the story of a fat, ageing, four eyed, grey haired Public Sector
worker with knackered knees and a very understanding partner.

Been working on the exhaust manifolds today, drivers side needs some serious modding but after cutting the pipes off just after the collector the passenger
side should be fine I think. Anyway here's some more piccies

Spent tonight doing the drivers side manifold, had a couple of goes then when I crawled under the car I found that the outlet pipe was going to foul the clutch
release arm. BUGGER ! so had another go and this time I think I've got it ! and it comes off without having to take all the spark plugs out too. I will
have to find some 50mm stainless pipe to build the rest of it back to the rear end, but after this side the other should be a doddle.
The passenger side manifold will also need an outlet pipe but as you can see there's about 150mm of room that side. So here's some more piccies for your bedroom walls, can't put them on mine as her indoors hates the reflection they give in the mirror on the ceiling, ah well, there's no accounting for taste eh.(funny cos that's what everyone tells her when she mentions me) Ok so it's only tacked together, but I need restitution |

Had a night off tonight as didn't get back from work till 8pm. Now you may think that all of this work is a last minute cobbled together thing, but in fact
I've spent a lot of time over the past 18 months reserching and gathering parts, you never really know though until you try and put it all together. So
here's a couple of items I'm working on, first up, the Sump
this is a cut-down V6 Cosworth Sump, and yes it's Aluminium. Have to say this isn't mine but I do have one waiting to be modified and it will go
well with the Alloy Bell-housing I have
Next is a 90 deg. Angle Drive for the speedo, these will set you back around £50 new, but you can buy a used one off ebay and modify it to fit. Note also
that it has a threaded fitting so a new cable will be needed. It does solve the problem of the tight bend from the Gearbox and up through the Engine Bay. In
fact, if you fit one to the speedo as well you can reduce the length of the cable and run it up through the gearbox tunnel, through the bottom of the dash, and
direct to the speedo unit. That should take about a metre off the cable and make it a lot straighter.

It's been hotter than a hot thing down the garage, phew, we moan about the rain but it's impossible to work in this heat. Managed to get a bit more
done. Kev from down the Pub came round today and helped me get the gearbox out again, god knows how we'll get it back in again it weighs a ton, and I'm
avoiding using the alloy bellhousing in case it raises more problems
there it is then, think I might build a cradle to help with the lifting when I (we) re-fit. below is the lightened Flywheel that came with the engine
(it's the one on the left, spot the difference?)

I did start to post something last night but my cat trod on the stupid 'OFF' button on the keyboard and shut everything down. When I re-booted the
mouse and the modem wouldn't work, sorted now and I've taken the precaution of prising the button out of the keyboard so that's no longer a worry
tee hee.
Anyway the continuing saga of the re-build continues like the continuation of a continuity Today I spent idly struggling under the car fitting the gearbox on my own, that's after making a Sandwich Plate first from ally, so here's some piccies for now, cos I'm shagged and dirty and I want the Pub badly !
