Jon Brookes and his team had sorted a huge patch of ground onto which were erected the three square "Gazebos", all in a row and tethered together to make one very large "hospitality Suite" sporting the Marcos Club logo. On Saturday we had over 20 cars (24 I think) and there was enough space for everyone. There was no itinerary as such, we all gathered during the morning, most had their cars on plot by 10am. After parking the cars and saying a few "hellos" people were free to do as they pleased.
There were many car clubs and the Harley-Davidson M/C club present, all of whom put on very good club displays (none as good as the Marcos Owners Club- of course). There were trade stands, merchandise stalls and auto jumble stalls to browse, there were plenty of races to watch (and plenty of space from which to watch them). I had my step Grandson with me, so after a few hellos and introductions we soon wandered off to sample all the displays and watch a few races. We returned to our temporary "Marcos home" for a BBQ and well needed sit down before wandering off for some more racing etc, repeating this pattern throughout the day. The Santana concert on Saturday night was FAN TAS TIC and rounded off a perfect day.
Sunday I was on my own and chose to do less of the wandering and more of the socialising but that was my choice, I could just as easily have gone to one of the vantage points and stayed there watching the races. About 1 or 1:30pm Most of us took our cars out onto the circuit, along with the Cobras, Mazda MX5's and other assorted groups. This led to the inevitable "charge" round the circuit where the Marcoses proceeded to dominate the occasion. I had the pleasure of Jon Brooks' company and I hope I managed to give him a thrilling and enjoyable experience. After the track time, we descended on the hospitality suite, where the BBQ was fired up and some well needed nourishment consumed. Some folks soon started to trickle off, especially those with very long journeys to undertake (I hope you all got home safely). After helping Jon dismantle our gazebos etc, it was off to watch one more race before heading home.
So, as you can see OldNoccer, the weekend is there to be enjoyed in any way you wish.
My Sincere thanks go to Jon and those who helped put this meeting together, you did a great job and should be very proud of your achievements. Also thanks to Paul (Boycey) for making it possible for my grandson and I to attend and enjoy such a fantastic weekend.
See you all at either Castle Combe or, if not, at the 50th celebration weekend.
Cheers all
Bob
