Hi All,
I've had a problem that has been ongoing since I've owned the car. The revs are very high on tickover sometimes. She starts and runs fine but once warmed up, I can sit at traffic lights etc and the revs will be at around 1500 - 1800rpm when they should be around 750 - 800rpm. The revs do come down if I'm sitting there for a while but there is definitely a problem of some kind in that department. I had the inlet manifold replaced soon after I bought the car as there was a suspected air leak. Still got the problem. A friend then said it could be the fuel (as I use unleaded and nothing special) but I am skeptical. I've tried super unleaded and even full 4-star at different times but no improvement. Since then I have to confess I've pretty well ignored it which, I suppose, is not doing great things for my overall fuel consumption. However, more recently someone suggested the Air Flow Meter. I have literally just started my investigations into this possibility and noticed that there seem to be a couple of different types. A 3AM and a 5AM (I think I also saw a 2AM). What is the difference? Which should I use if I replace it assuming it isn't marked on the part somewhere? My car is a Mantula Spyder and the engine is a 3.5 EFi. Is there any way to check it could be this without purchasing a new Air Flow Meter? Perhaps simply taking off the filter? Any help much appreciated.
