Yep, I'm going too. Taking the Marcos for the first time with my wife. My parents are in France and we're meeting up with them. Really looking
forward to it. I just hope global warming doesn't let us down and comes up trumps with the weather! We're staying at Sarthe which looks to be
south-east of the centre of Le Mans so no camping this time.

I'm going, travelling down in my 1970 V6 on the Thursday via Dunkirque and staying with friends about an hour south of the circuit. We will be popping up
for the Classic British Welcome on the Friday.

The Quiffster wrote:Careful now Quiffy. I reckon you'll be the proud owner of that Mantis one day. Y'see, I tried to sit in it a couple of months ago, and spotted a fundamental flaw. Owing to Jay's slightly peturbing inability to distinguish between inches and millimetres, he's installed the pedal box about a foot in front of the seat. As a result, I couldn't actually get my legs in, due to the wheel/seat/pedals set-up. The only people realistically able to drive the thing would be those of a.... ummm..... Now, Jay is about seven foot six, or thereabouts, and I watched in astonishment as he folded himself up and sat in the driver's seat. But then I remembered - a few years ago he had his spine removed, and he now keeps it in a jar next to his bed. I've forgotten the precise details, but that sounds about right. Anyway, the only reason he is able to walk upright is that he has his shirts washed in starch, and then puts a broom handle down the back of them. If you look carefully, just above his arse you'll even see the bristles. At first glance, it just looks like he needs to shave his back, but not so. Anyway, where was I? Ah yes. Now, the problem is that in order to drive the car, Jay has to remove the broomstick and take his starched shirt off. Which means that upon reaching his destination, when he gets out of the car he falls in a wobbly heap on the floor, and can't move. He just sort of lays there, wobbling like a jelly, half naked, looking like a giant aneamic ginger slug. Once, some boys came out of their house and poured salt on him. It's a very confusing, not to mention disconcerting, sight. So, I would imagine Jay will eventually tire of this performance, and put the car up for sale. And there's not many people who are sma....... errrrr........ who would be of the right build to find a comfortable driving position. |

EEEEErrr for someone who doesnt even get his arse up from Cause to Le Man I think thats fighting talk young man. For you information the pedal box has all been
changed and someone of eeer shorter stature will not even find the pedals. By the way have you found your new car yet!!!!
Now are we going to see you this weekend!!! |

Great weather but for some reason there was a very poor turn out in the parade, I wasn't counting but I would have said there were only about 30 and several of them were Feench .

I was refering to the parade of classics that we were invited to participate in in 2004, 10 cars from 10 clubs wasn't it? that drive in convoy to Le mans
town with the Harley escort. This year there were a few ancient (1920's? Citroens, De Dion Bouton, Renault, several morgans, a VERY nice Auburn and a few
others that escape my memory but certainly far far less than previous years, in fact there may well have been more Harleys than cars
Very pleased that the chav element seemed to be missing this year, I only got squirted once going through Arnage and that was by a small child The race itself was pretty good, the new Aston/Lola is a thing of beuty especially in the Gulf colours and managed to be the first of the petrol engined LMP1 cars home, maybe they'll have a better chance next year when the diesel handy cap is increased. Very sad that the Corvettes won't be competing in GT1 again, there was a huge cheer when it crossed the finish line and proceded to smoke its tyres up the finish straight. The low point for me was having my alternator sieze up, we managed to find a replacement on Monday at a provincial Citroen garage which fittedm and even had a pulley on it but £00 Euros for an item that had obviously been sitting on a shelf for years was a bit steep |
