Working on the car today and the BOOT will not open?
Any amount of prising/heaving/persusasion does not work.
Assume I have to drill a hole somewhere? to operate the mechanism??

Work Continues | #22 | ||

Spent the weekend repairing the 2 Fibreglass cill covers. On one the resin had "Powdered" ? and had to cut out a lot. Made a wooden former to
reproduce the profile and used silicon to form the radius.

Rebuild started | #23 | ||

Pleased to say new chassis tubes all welded in, we cut some holes in the bodywork internally to enable welds all round.
Its enabled me to completely line the engine bay and transmission tunnel with heat resistant material with aluminium facing, used high temp adhesive. Next stage saw all front end suspension & steering reassembled with new Gaz adjustable shocks and retained oroginal leather spring covers.
Rear axle now out BUT having big problems with the radius arm bolts - of course the easy ones are accessable and the rear ones are solid! |

That's looking very good Hillclimber.
Are those polybushes in your wishbones? if so what are the details Cheers Colin |

Hi Colin
Yes all Polybushed front end with bushes from Rimmer Bros, as per their catalogue for GT6. Fitted OK but not too sure about the length of the internal spacer tube, seemed a little short but have not yet fully tightened, awaiting engine replacement so I can fully tighten at "Normal" ride height. I am going to Polyflex for the rear bush's since they are listed on their website- will post results when fitted. I am very pleased with results - so far, but arriving at difficult decisions on engine,gearbox,axle mods. So many options! |

Thanks for the info, I REALLY must get round to doing my bushes, I fitted standard bushes front and rear when I re-built my car 18 years ago, I don't
suppose it's doen more than 10k since then but the rears are totally shot and the front has 'setled' so much that I have massive negative camber.

Progress Update | #27 | ||

2 weeks delay due to family death, clearing house, probate etc - I expect you all know the problems!
Anyway back to work and finally parted the wheel hubs from the half shafts, had to get them redish hot on hydraulic press and finally they parted after 40 years. Decided to tackle next major job the electrics.
Cant believe how many wires including a few "Extras" there are in the loom. I think I have discovered the cause of my previous post regarding colours matching a wiring diagram. You can see the 2 Purple wires in pristine condition from inside the loom. Well they exited the loom as Browns, with the colour fading at they approached daylight! interesting. Found about 6 wires cut inside the loom and then extended in different colours. Both the white wire to the coil and the main earths had seriously melted coverings. So all wires are now out and am starting a complete rewire. HELP: No doubt I will require some short lengths of correctly coloured wires to replace damaged/short wires. Any of you got any short lengths left after your rebuilds? I will buy them if available. |

I have range of wire left over that you can have but I'm not due back in Norwich for at least 2 week (17 Nov).
Cheers, Adrian |

Thanks Adrian
I will not need for couple of weeks, working on rear axle, so will phone you couple of weeks to arrange a collection |

Hi - not all Marcos but shows what us "Retired" folks get up to.
Sorry not keeping you all up to date but its been a busy month. I got to the point where I needed help on the electrics. Thankfully Adrian 2 lives close by and visited with some excellent advice giving me the confidence to do a complete rewire. So I have started and its going well - but interrupted. My wife is local village Church Warden and of course I offered to save them £10,000 and renew all the rainwater guttering - without scaffolding!. Here is pic of me in the bucket nearing completion on the South side. Its been 5 days work, but weather permitting, should complete tomorrow. Material cost £2000 - scaffolding and labour saving of £10,000. I also "Uprighted" the organ for £3.54 instead of the £10,000 estimate. How - hydraulically push the organ upright, underpin the supports rather than take off and replace the organ - Simples!! On a Marcos note, I have been VERY fortunate in buying a full race prepared V6 + T5 gearbox with matching bell housing + a 4HA axle with LSD + prop shaft to cut to length. All in the garage ready to fit. But a question arises since its a manufactured carb - inlet manifold and looks high- will the Holly carb fit in the "Standard" bonnet bulge?. I have the bonnet off so can any of you with a Holly fitted tell me a dimension from say the top of the horizontal chassis frame where the engine mount welds on to the top of the Holly inlet flange. I think I may need to drop the engine by 10/15mm to get clearance. I would rather fit the engine once - correctly. I can now forsee a Xmas startup so the 2010 Hill Climb season looks possible. |

Work is now back on track to get the Marcos ready for 2010 Hill Climbing season.
I am pleased to say the last wire went in this afternoon to complete the electrics rewire. As you can see I used a central fused distribution board mounted in the reduced length Glove box (which is now illuminated for night time fuse replacement) . I integrated the original V6 wiring diagram to the new fuse board + mods to accept the Alternator I am fitting. Lets hope it all works!!! Note that I left all the wires long enough so that I can hinge down the instrument panel for any future mods/problem solving. I just need to tidy the runs of the wires, put on a protective cover and attach the battery. So onto converting the "New" Salisbury 4HA axle to fit the Marcos next week, machine the original Marcos wheels to have the finish I saw on a number of cars at Prescott, the new tyres are here so I hope to have the car back on 4 wheels within 2 weeks.

Hi
Had Sunday away from garage so, whilst fresh in my mind, I produced a wiring diagram as installed for future owners of the car:
My only problem is with the White (W) wire which meanders around from Tacho, to Ign. light, to Ign. switch. Seems it could be used to supply the power to the Tacho - hence the dotted line. As you can see the 13 fuse - 21 connection panel purchased from CBS is now integrated together with the Ammeter. Completed machining 2 wheels today, tyres on tomorrow.

A bit late replying to your earlier post but I think the Holley will be too high for an unmodified bulge. Richard Partridge used to run a Holley 4 barrel on
his V6 and the bulge had to be raised.

Thanks Colin and will wait and see what clearance I have when engine in. Could be a solution to lower engine, put on a small "Collecting" sump and
convert to a dry sump engine - time will tell.
Have sorted the wiring with Adrian 2's help. tacho live feed now from the horn switch wire PY. Have found that the Salisbury 4HA axle is quite larger/different to the 7HA variety so today I am transferring disc brake assembly from the 4 to the 7, and will use the 7 without a LSD at present. Therfore a 4HA axle for sale if anybody interested with drum brakes!!. Also looked at the "New" engine and in particular at the Holley carb. Cannot find any ID numbers - where are they normally stamped? as I need some linkage parts. Phone call today saying the new door restaints (stitched leather) with wires through centre are being delivered tomorrow allowing completion of the wiring and then dashboards back in! New tyres on wheels - look great with the machined finish to the original Marcos wheels. Petrol tank installed and new copper feed pipe bent and installed, thanks to Dr. Death for delivering his spare pipe. New Holley petrol pump and filter/pressure regulator located in position and new fixing brackets to make. Now looking at the pedal box. Has anyone upgraded to two brake cylinders with bias assembly (independant pressure feed to front and rear for safety)? if so what did you use for cylinders? |

I have used a Wilwood alloy pedal assembly with adjustable bias bar, front master cylinder is 3/4" and the rear is 7/8" with all the bias to the
front. It works well with my brakes, 4 pot calipers on the front and Sierra calipers on the rear, never have had any problems with the brakes locking on the
rear and they do have a nice "feel".
It`s not more power you need, it`s less weight and a few subtle mods and some not so subtle!
