50th Anniversary pictures post here please.
I thought I'd start a thread for anyone AT the 50th Anniversary (or anyone who wanted to be, but couldn't make it).
Personally, caught up with a good few people already. Got to Garden Centre (Starting Point 1 of Mystery Tour) an hour & a half later than it closed (1330 hours) but Marcos people being Marcos people, someone had wisely stayed to wait for (very) late-comers. Met new Mantis & Mantaray owner (both green... classy!
) & Mr Brookes was also there providing moral
support. Good news is he was there in his Marcos. Yaay!
Missed majority of 'Mystery Tour' checkpoints due to excessive catching-up-people-not-seen-in-ages type delays but... that's why we're here, right?! Followed Aviator's LM400 for a while (Exhaust note to die for!
) then bailed out to the Regency Hotel. Caught up with a few more people in the car park including Christian (CF) & Isobel, neither of whom
I've seen for a while.
Now... that's what I call a car park!!! I know it's going to get better & all that stuff but let's face it, how often do you get to drive into a hotel car park with 20 Marcos in, park up, then see another 10 cars show up. Needless to say the Morrisons were hogging the hosepipe ("We've given up Concours"... yeah right!). The bad news is that my room is right behind Richard P's car, so the bugger is bound to wake me up at 5am when he starts to wash the car. Bah!
Met Ned (XP owner) & heard v good things about the photoshoots of the XP, including a spontaneous trip to Castle Coombe. Apparently Classic Sportscar mag took over 6000 shots of the car! Should be a bumper issue or they will have to ditch some of the shots!
Had v pleasant dinner at Regency Hotel with about 60 other
Marcos devotees, including the very charming wives of Jonathan & Jeremy. Phil (FirstMantis) egged on the wine...
So... a very promising start to the whole 50th Anniversary weekend.
Weather forecast OK for tomorrow (Sat) & good for Sunday. Excellent. That's pretty much it for Day 1 post except to say that the last people at the bar were 3 Mantis owners + Jeremy (despite some heavy hints from his son Harry!); you big girls blouse LM owners out there take note!
